In today’s video we demonstrate the proper goalkeeper stance. It’s very important as a goalkeeper, to be agile and be ready for any incoming balls.

First off, to adopt an effective stance, you want to make sure that you are on your tip toes. That will help you want to move in every directions to stop the soccer balls. You want to avoid being flat footed, as it will slow you down to make your blocking attempts.

Secondly, you want to bend your knees slightly to make sure that you can quickly spring upwards or on the sides at any moment to stop the soccer ball from entering the net.

Next, you will want to have your arms up next to your body. With this goalkeeper position, you can extend your arms to the left or right and be ready to make a diving save.

Also, you will want to keep your hands slightly extended in a triangle form to help you absorb the ball upon making the save. By keeping this goalkeeper stance, you will reduce the chances of leaving rebounds.

You can practice this goalkeeper stance with the help of a training partner. As the player is standing in front of you throwing the ball, you will dive on either sides to block the incoming balls from entering the net.

Once the save is made, you get back on your original goalkeeper stance to stop the next incoming ball thrown by your training partner.

You can practice both the left and right sides, but you can also jump upward to make a save. This soccer drill, will certainly get you going and will help your explosiveness in your goalkeeper movements.

  1. Hey lately ive been feeling concerned about my skills as keeper, id really like some easy tips to save goals, since i feel im the reason our team is not doing great, that would be much appreciated thank you <3

  2. We need these kind of youtube channels. This guy is a legend for showing people how to play GK and everything in between. my team doesn’t have a good GK so I’m stepping up and this is how I’m gonna learn!

  3. The basics is to NOT jump like a rabbit losing energy! U never jump up and down during a match! And your leg should NEVER fall infront of you when diving!
OMG stop just stop this GK videos, as u dont know and you learn young gk the wrong stuff

  4. This is a "Trick' and it isn't even the best. Tippy Toes? Triangle? If you're good at field player skills, please stick with that and leave the specialization of GK training to specialists. Watching videos like this will set goalkeeping back generations.
