El Hadji Diouf didn’t stay long at Liverpool, but it was impossible to forget – not because the Senegal international played good football, but because he managed to annoy Steven Gerrard, Jamie Carragher, head coach Gerard Houlier and, of course, Liverpool fans. He spat at a fan, yelled insults at Stevie G and always hit back at his critics with much venom. So despicable was his behaviour at times Neil Warnock called him a sewer rat. Watch this video to find out more about the most hated man in Liverpool.

  1. I remember the running joke that Houllier might be his dad, because nobody could come up with another explanation as to how Diouf was in the Liverpool team 😭genuinely awful player for top flight football

  2. I have to defend Diouf here a bit , yes Houllier it's was a big transfer mistake bringing him to the club but it's misleading that he was a number 9 when he played most of the season as an wide midfielder and I remember Murphy stoping him take a penalty against Arsenal hitting the ball out of his hands.

Liverpool wasn't culturally ready to accept certain types of players, Salif Diao comments at this his time at the club are very revealing that Gerrad didn't really welcome him at the club which shows how immature Gerrad was as a young Captain.

When you hear hold African players were welcomed at Chelsea it's a totally different story so it's taken liverpool a long time to catch up to be culturally mature to different types of characters.

Gerrad has also shown how petty he can be as a manager with the Mings narrative at Villa which ultimately has cost him the chance to manage Liverpool.

Lets not forget Diouf played part in Liverpool winning the 2003 league cup where he did score in the semi finals. So he won the same amount of titles as Kuyt and Suarez and more than Torres.

Also let's not forget that carragher had his own spitting incident years later which was worse than Diouf yet nobody wants to mention it.

Diouf time at Bolton showed that he was a good team player so just a case of the wrong move for both parties.

  3. he is from royal background hence he has that attitude that prince charles has ,it's normal plus racism is rampant in royal families, each one thinks they are the super race, when infact all of them are inbred recessive.

  4. correct, he wasn't just an a**hole on and off the pitch, he was also completely useless too. I cannot believe we didn't sign Anelka instead. I like Houlier, but he made some shocking mistakes, this was one of the biggest.
