  1. Everyones got a thyroid or hormonal issue. C'mon folks, I love food just as much as the next guy.

I've made conscious food choices in the past few months and have lost weight after thinking "wellp guess I'll never lose weight" and was convinced that my setpoint was as a fatty.

Wrong – it just requires willpower.

    And I did this on a budget – 1800calories/150g protien a day. 8+ kilos down. It's SIMPLE.

  2. Absolutely it is.

I have lost almost 8kg and now down to a happy 85 at 177cm.

I let myself consciously balloon up to 92.5+ by eating too many calories.

It's a conscious choice…there are better options for food, we all know. No one needs to have a huge helping of taco bell washed down with full sugar coke.

It IS choice. YOU control what goes into your gob, and whether or not you move your body.

I grew up in an Italian household, and would always finish my plate and ate pizza, pasta, arancini, all the delicious stuff.

But I've made a conscious choice to lose weight by changing my habits.

    It's NOT hard people

  3. It’s a choice unless it’s genetic based illness like lymphedema etc yes poverty does factor but tbh if you work out the calories that you intake. If you have a disability you don’t have to do extreme gym nights, swimming is an absolute wonderful exercise that will help keep you healthy doesn’t mean to be skinny but healthy. Also skinny doesn’t mean healthy plenty of skinny people have high cholesterol. Fatphobic needs to F off.

  4. I enjoyed the conversation but was disappointed by the discussion on food deserts. I live in (downtown) Chicago but there are food deserts on the South Side (Englewood comes to mind), where residents live more than 1/2 mile away from a grocery store. The obesity in those areas are higher than the national average. The conversation would have been better if there was at least one panelist from a low socioeconomic community that could speak to the issues that a lot of people in this country face.

  5. Im convinced nutritional education is the problem and the change in the food environment (thats designed to be bought/overconsumed by most people) makes education necessary for more people now compared to the past.

Grapes and salad (diet mentioned at the beginning) is not a healthy diet. Grapes are not satiating and have snall effect on satiety but are high in kcals.

The problem is not one or two cheeseburgers. Cheeseburgers should be consumed so little that one or two gas no effect on kcals per day on average.

Seed oils as a buzzword from unscientific sources.

I'm convinced no-one in this round has looked at scientific websites like Harvard Health.

  6. Pretty much everyone had the ability to be skinny. But how much effort it takes varies highly person to person. Some people it’s like some common sense stuff like don’t eat past full. And others it would need to be the most important thing going on in their life.

  7. I was a Personal Trainer for 8 years. It's a case by case basis. I trained people of many health conditions, disabilities, & limitations. I've encountered many younger people not experienced enough to understand these things beyond general fitness. The worst argument is everyone "used to be" skinny. Most people weren't skinny from healthy diets / quality exercise & life expectancy was LOW. It's wrong to shame or gaslight genuine problems. Some people do have acceptable reasons, a common one is debilitating chronic pain from injuries. So it's a choice to an extent.

  8. Dominick asking Izi about the modeling industry when Cambria clearly said she also models is such a symptom of what is wrong with the perception here. They’re both models. He could have asked them both. Instead he asked the skinny woman as the expert? If I were Cambria I would have had a hard time keeping quiet on that one. Respect to Izi but she could have called that out too in fairness.

  9. As a former Personal Trainer for years. It's very difficult to lose weight. It's 100X more difficult if you have a specific health condition that most people don't understand. The worst thing is 20-25 yr olds telling people how it is. I have an empathetic approach after yrs training people with many health conditions, disabilities, & impairments.

  10. Watching the skinny woman in the red dress wave and dangle her leg/foot around while piously disagreeing with the woman who uses a cane is not only tone deaf and insensitive but also just plain nasty. Put your boney leg down, Karen. Your skinny bias and privilege is ugly.

  11. Does anybody know the exact book, "Intuitive Eating", Lauren is referring to that "changed her life"? What she said about diet culture is what makes people struggle with weight problems and depriving yourself too much also doesn't lead to the healthiest outcomes – like binge eating – I can resonate with that. There's a lot of books with that name but I want that specific one. If someone has her instagram/twitter or something, i'd be grateful to have it so I can send a message and ask her. Or possibly you know the exact book she's talking about, please tell me!

  12. Lets not normalize obesity. I honestly think this is just not accesptible to glorify obesity as a society. Also women omesity is the only marketable sector, there is no obese male models for a reason.

  13. As someone with Hashimoto’s/hypothyroidism & PCOS both issues being a hormonal issue that you can’t control from happening and they directly affects how your metabolism work: I don’t think SOME (not all) being overweight is a choice. To give a better understanding, me and my mom did the SAME diet and we worked out the same amount of time doing light workouts, nothing too crazy. In 2 months my mom lost 10 pounds and I lost ONE. How is that a choice?

Especially since people are so ignorant on thyroid issues. I know one overweight participant and one skinny participant both said they had thyroid issues but what specifically? The skinny one says she goes to an endocrinologist the other one says she doesn’t know anything about it. Can one AFFORD healthcare and the other can’t? Because that also plays a HUGE role. Does the skinny one have HYPERthyroidsm which just makes your metabolism faster therefore is harder to gain weight? Those comments were insignificant if they were going to go into more detail about it as it plays a huge factor into the “choice” question. So no being overweight is not a choice for some people so to generalize everyone into it was an ignorant question imo.

  14. Honestly i really love how nice are all of them with each other like there is always someone who is very aggressive in this kind of conversation and actually having a group who is respectful with each other is very nice.

  15. Huge problem for those thinking being “plus size” or “skinny” is not choice. Seriously? That is a choice. Doesn’t matter if your parents were obese. If you want to lose, you will workout and change your eating habits. If you want to gain weight (which I’ve done being skinny my whole life) you have to eat more and I know it is super hard. But it is a choice. But we can be lazy or just lack the knowledge on how.
