The United States and Mexico have announced their intention to jointly bid to host the 2027 Women’s soccer World Cup. This bid would follow the 2026 men’s World Cup, which is being co-hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico. The US has previously hosted the women’s tournament in 1999 and 2003. Other countries that have expressed interest in hosting the 2027 tournament include Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, and South Africa. The US-Mexico bid has the advantage of existing infrastructure and a strong women’s soccer presence in both countries. However, the large traveling distances between host venues could be a disadvantage. The final decision on the host country will be made in May 2024. The tournament has never been hosted in South America, Central America, or Africa.
