  1. Italians who love soccer are like italians who like Vasco Rossi, wich means there are italians who like listen to Vasco and italians who like listening music. Such as there are italians who like soccer and italians who like sports. But not watching the World Cup is a crime against your Nation for all.

  2. In 1366 the state of Savoy made a naval expedition against the Turkish empire. They used a "light blue" ensign (in italian "azzurra") in homage of the Virgin Mary. It became the official color for the house of Savoy (one of the oldest family in Europe, began year 1000). In 1861 the state of Savoy led Italy to its unity, creating the kingdom of italy (lasted until 1946). The Savoy light blue was kept as "national color" also with the republic (1946 – current).

  3. Azzurri doesn't mean the "blues", azzurro is the colour of the sky, a light blue, azure. In Italian blue is blu and it is a much darker shade. And yes the colour azzurro was in honour of the long gone italian royal family, the Savoia.

  4. I’m a huge fan of the Italian football 💖💖💖 like you say I honestly cry when they loose and I shout and scream when they win. As a crazy person, believe me, and I’m not even Italian 🤷🏻‍♀️✨✨ I didn’t know this fact although I’ve been wondering why for so many years 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you so much for shining light into my ignorance ✨✨💕

  5. 90% of the comments are about colors, better put some points:

    ✅ Azzurro (0, 128, 255) = Azure (0, 127, 255) …almost

    not

    ❌ Blue = Blu (0, 0, 255)

    ❌ Medium blue (0, 0, 205)

    ❌ Dark blue (0, 0, 139)

    ❌ Savoy Blue (75, 97, 209)

    ❌ Sky blue (135, 206, 235)

    ❌ Light blue (173, 216, 230)

    ❌ Celeste (178, 255, 255)

Over the years, the Italian shirt has had different shades of blue. In my opinion the color this year is between blue and savoy blue.

  6. The reason is the following….at the battle of Lepanto against the Turks, Oct 7 1571, all Italian states contributed with ships. The Duke of Savoy sent a few ships as well, and in order to promote protection by the Virgin Mary, had his ships carry a blue banner, the iconic colour the Virgin Mary wears in Catholic paintings….since the battle was a definite victory, the colour BLUE was since then used as the official color of the House of Savoy….
