Terry Venables, who led the England National Team to the semi-finals of the 1996 European Football Championship (EURO 96), died at the age of 80.
Former England national team technical director Venables dies
«We are saddened to lose a wonderful husband and father who passed away peacefully after a long illness,» Venables’ family said in a statement.
Venables, who wore Chelsea, Tottenham and Queens Park Rangers jerseys in his football career, coached Barcelona, Tottenham, Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough and Leeds United as well as the England National Team.
Under Venables, the England National Team met Germany in the semi-finals of EURO 96 at Wembley Stadium and Germany won the final ticket after Gareth Southgate, who currently coaches the national team, missed a penalty.
The English technical director ended Barcelona’s 11-year championship longing in the 1984-85 season and won the Federation Cup with Tottenham in 1991.
