Lionel Messi has no more ‘but’ attached to his legacy | Pro Soccer Talk | NBC Sports

  1. Messi did a "¿what he just did?" moment for 18 years… He is a magician, and artist, a creator… No sportman ever has done magical new movements with that regularity. To me HE IS THE GOAT OF SPORTS. 🐐 And above all he is a touching person. A especial person.

  2. A very simple question is at 35 years old has anyone scored 7 goals and provided 3 assists in a world cup and won the world cup? Second question is has anyone won 7 Ballon d'Ors and 8th on the way? Is there anythings that Messi has left to win?

  3. Yes…I guess Messi is the best player ever but poor character… The Cup was won by entire team. He kept the cup for himself all the time, not sharing much…Very selfish!!! I feel ashamed that He has no shame… Eh?

  4. 'but' he took performance enhancing drugs because of his growth hormone deficiency…still one of the GOAT's, but i think you can say something about every great player.

  5. The argument, that Messi has to get the WC to be the goat is highly artificial, cause, who´s to say, after all??? Watch Messi, Maradona and Pele for 5 minutes, and u´ll already know the answer, it´s actually that simple. Many argue that Messi is the goat anyway, but that Ronaldo (the good one) was actually better (stronger, better shooting and one of the best dribblers ever anyway, almost as good as Messi)… Well, Ronaldo spent his youth in Brazil, where defending is optional sometimes…. He arrived in Europe, and in a couple of years, he was irreparably injured, his legacy ended fast. Messi spent his youth in the 3rd spanish league (a slaughterhouse), getting fouled every 2 minuted in regular basis, since he turned 15, and still plays with 35, 20 years later. In other words, Ronaldo´s dribbling apparently wasn´t on Messi´s level, or else, he wouldn´t have been injured so often and so seriously ,so fast, like he did (and what ended his career, finally).
I think it´s a mistake to compare Messi to anyone else, cause only Iniesta/Xavi were mentally on Messi´s level, and Ronaldinho/Neymar on his technical level, so he is still ahead of his time, and no team could ever unlock his full potential, cause of lack of fully understanding him by most teammates. The future will uncover what he actually did to the game, and the true content of his legacy, but for now, especially the younsters (hotblooded as they are, appreciate just scoring) are just able to interpret CR7´s talent, but surely not Messi´s.
Just some months ago, I had to give a classs in a school, and came to talking about footbal in the school-yard with a boy. He said, he´s obsessed with Messi´s game, tries to find explanations in the web, but nothing that has helped till now. His coach thinks he´s the best in his team, but himself, he´s dissappointed, cause he cannot emulate Messi. I tried my best to give him an explanation. Several weeks later, again there to meet the school-director, I see this boy, and he shouted to me, that he tried all I´ve told him, and finally tried it in a game, and it worked, and after long-long time, he was able to score 5 in a single game again, like in days long past, when he was a little kid, and in a different league (in children´s league u have high scores, even in Germany, as u can imagine, but he´s grown out of this league some years ago, and since then, he couldn´t score so many goals again, till he applied my advice). My understanding is, that people still know very little about Messi´s game, and so, don´t try to emulate him, but with time knowledge will become more common.
