The Football League has confirmed that the Carabao Cup two-leg semi-finals will continue for another season due to delays in reaching a new funding agreement with the Premier League. Talks regarding extra funding for the English Football League (EFL) have been paused since before Christmas, and reducing the semi-finals to a single leg is expected to be one of the conditions for the additional funding. However, the EFL chairman, Rick Parry, has stated that the EFL will not be meeting any demands in advance. The Premier League has yet to make an offer on funding, and any significant changes to the calendar would require compensation and be part of a new distribution deal with the Premier League and its clubs. The Carabao Cup semi-finals for this season are currently taking place, with Chelsea having secured their place in the final with a 6-1 win over Middlesbrough. The EFL will not make changes to the calendar without a new funding deal, according to Parry. The Football Association has not yet confirmed whether replays in the FA Cup will feature next season. The calendar changes, including the expansion of UEFA’s club competitions and the introduction of the FIFA Club World Cup, have raised concerns, with the chief executive of the Professional Footballers’ Association warning that legal action may be taken.
